Elphinstone Reef Diving

Elphinstone is a narrow, isolated reef plateau a boat ride south of Marsa Alam, and it's routinely ranked among the best dive sites in Egypt for a reason. Its walls drop dramatically past 60 metres on both the north and south ends, and the open-water position makes it a magnet for pelagic species — oceanic whitetip sharks are a genuine possibility in autumn, and hammerheads are occasionally spotted too.
Currents here can be strong and conditions change quickly, which is why most operators require an Advanced Open Water certification or equivalent logged dives before taking you. It's usually run as a two-tank day, giving you a shot at both the north and south plateaus.
This isn't a beginner site — but for a certified diver, it's one of the main reasons to come to Marsa Alam at all.
