Dendera Temple Day Trip

From €56

Dendera Temple, dedicated to the goddess Hathor, sits about an hour north of Luxor and is one of the best-preserved temple complexes in all of Egypt, thanks largely to being buried in sand for centuries before excavation. Its ceilings retain vivid original color in places, including the famous zodiac ceiling (a replica — the original is in the Louvre), and its crypts and rooftop chapels are unusually intact.

Because it's a bit further out than the main Luxor sites, Dendera sees noticeably fewer crowds, which makes for a calmer, more exploratory visit than the busier temples closer to town.

A good pick for a second or third day in Luxor if you want to go deeper than the headline sites.
